Abstract: From the system CuSO4-(NH4)2CO3-NH3-NH4SCN-H2O, the ppt. in the solid state in relation to the compn., the mechanism of the formation and the structure of Cu(II) complexes are described. The investigation was carried out with series of isomolar solns., where the sum of the concns. of the components CuSO4, NH3, (NH4)2CO3, and NH4SCN was kept const. at 0.05M and where in the monovariant system Cu(NO3)2-NH-(NH4)2CO3-NH4SCN, only the concn. of (NH4)2CO3 was variable. The conditions for the formation of complexes Cu(SCN)2(NH3)2 and for insol. products 2CuSO4.3Cu(OH)2, CuSO4.3Cu(OH)2, CuCO3.Cu(OH)2.CuSCN, and Cu(SCN)2(NH3)2 are described. The formation of α-CuSCN, the white modification, from the (NH4)2CO3-free system and the formation of β-CuSCN the colored modification, from the system contg. (NH4)2CO3 is described. From the monovariant systems of the molar ratio Cu(II): CO32- 1:1 and 1: 2, crystals of Cu(SCN)2(NH3)4 and of the molar ratio 1:4, crystals of Cu2(SCN)3(NH3)3 and Cu3(SCN)4(NH3)4 were detd. From these results it can be derived that there is a series of unknown compds. of the general formula Cu(SCN)2(NH3)2.nCu(SCN)(NH3) with n = 0.1 and 2, which were prepd.
