The sorption of methylene blue and methylene violet on the variously processed Fintice bentonite
Abstract: The effect of some acids and Na salts on the modification of bentonite from Fintice and its sorption of methylene blue at 520 mμ and of methylene violet at 470 mμ was described. The liberation of Al3+, Fe3+, Ca2+, and Mg2+ was obsd. The sorption capacity increases starting from 30% H2SO4, it has max. at 20% H3PO4 and min. at 60%, and it is assocd. with a sharp decrease of Al3+. With HCl, the sorption capacity varies greatly, showing a sharp decrease at 5-10% and it is unchanged at 15-30%. The sorption capacity is assocd, with a great decrease of Al3+, while Fe3+, Ca2+, and Mg2+ are unchanged. Of the Na salts, Na2Cr2O7.H2O, NaClO3, Na2CO3, NaCl, Na2SO4, NaH2PO4.2H2O, and NaOAc.3H2O were tested. NaOAc.3H2O showed the highest and NaCl lowest sorption capacity. With increasing pH the sorption capacity was increased in water suspensions of bentonite.
