Abstract: By the reaction of 3.2 g. of electrolytic Cu with 6.5 g. of nitrosyl perchlorate in 100 ml. of acrylonitrile under 15 torr pressure and N atm., Cu(C3H3N)4ClO4 (I) was prepd. By using 1.6 g. of electrolytic Cu under the same conditions, Cu(C3H3N)4(ClO4)2 (II) was prepd. Both I and II are relatively unstable, lose acrylonitrile in the air, and absorb moisture. They fuse on heating, rapidly evolve acrylonitrile, and decomp. explosively. The absorption spectra in the visible and infrared region were measured. I shows absorption bands at 2250-90 cm-1 for CN and at 1613 cm-1 for C:C; II shows absorption bands at 2290 cm-1 for CN and at 1615 cm-1 for C:C.
