Oscillopolarographic determination of tetranitromethane in nitromethane

Abstract: Tetranitromethane (I) is irreversibly reduced in a supporting electrolyte contg. 72.0% N H₂SO4, 20.0% MeOH, and 8.0% pyridine, and produces a single cathodic incision at the Q value 0.42. Nitromethane (II) does not interfere in the redn., but the Q value of I increases with the concn. of II. The depth of the incision on the curve dE/dt = f(E) is proportional to the concn. of I.
