Abstract: During production of ferromolybdenum, MoO3 is formed by oxidizing roasting of MoS2, but some residual S remains in the sulfate form which is not desirable. During roasting of Chinese molybdenite concentrate, all of the S is bound as Fe2(SO4)3 and Al2(SO4)3. In view of this fact and by applying thermodynamic equations, Kp = (27/4)̅P2SO3(̅PT̅ P2SO3)-3, a table was made showing at given SO3 content in the smelter gas, the temp. (600-50°) at which the sulfates are not formed.
