Paper chromatography of keto steroids

Abstract: Eleven steroids were sepd. on Whatman paper nos. 1 and 3, impregnated with 25% formamide in 25% EtOH and with 1:2:7 benzene CCl₄^-hexane as solvent. The Rf values for different solvents are tabulated. Detection with dinitrophenylhydrazine was made easier by spraying with molybdophosphoric acid.
