Changes of mechanical properties of natural rubber during degradation

Abstract: Differences in the thermal stability of pale crepe and latex samples are attributed, apart from the influence of compounding ingredients, to differences in values of the activation energy of segmental flow, which probably has some relation to variation of chain interweaving. Therefore, the values of the activation energy were detd. from computed dependence of rebound on relaxation time from the models and from the exptl. found dependence of rebound on temp. In the case of latex samples, there is a slight shift during the induction period to a lower relaxation time, the activation energy of segmental flow remaining const. The shift of the dependence of rebound on relaxation time is explained by changes in the chain configuration being effected by changes in the chain length produced in the process of degradation
