Polarization of an electrode to extreme positive potentials in a.c. oscillographic polarography
V. P. Gladyshev
Kazakh State Univ., Alma-Ata.
Abstract: In a.c. oscillographic polarography, a hanging Hg drop or a streaming Hg electrode in 0.1-1 M supporting electrolyte (KCl, HCl, HBr) was polarized to potentials by 1.5 v. more pos. than that corresponding to anodic dissoln, of Hg. On the oscillographic curves dE/dt = f(E), inflections corresponding to redn. of MnO4-, S2O8--, H2O2, and Au3+, or to pptn. of Hg+ by anions like SO4--, PO43-, and (COO)2-- can be observed. The electrode is covered by a film of Hg oxides and halides which do not interfere with the electrode processes.
