Oscillopolarographic study of 3-hydroxy-4-pyrone derivatives
V. P. Gladyshev
Kazakh State Univ., Alma-Ata.
Abstract: In a.c. oscillographic polarography with a dropping Hg electrode, 3-hydroxy-4-pyrone (I) and 3-methoxy-4-pyrone are reduced only in acidic solns. like N HCl or N H2SO4, giving 1 irreversible cathodic inflection on the curve dE/dt = f(E) at - 1.3 v. vs. satd. calomel electrode. Other derivs. of I, viz., 2-carboxy-, 2-carbethoxy-, 2-carbethoxy-3-methoxy-, 6-carboxy-, 2,6-dicarboxy-, 2,6-dicarbethoxy-, and 2,6-dicarbethoxy-3-ethoxy derivs. give inflections on the curve dE/dt = f(E) in acidic as well as in neutral, buffered, and unbuffered solns. Thus, identification and detn. of derivs. of I in their mixt. appears possible in the concn. range of 10-4-5 × 10-3M.
