Abstract: By the soln. method of Hammick and Andrew (CA 23, 3435) the parachor Px values of 18 inorg. salts (NaCl, NaBr, NaI, NaNO3, Na2SO4, Na2CO3, KCl, KBr, KI, KNO3, K2SO4, K2CO3, NH4Cl, NH4NO3, (NH4)2SO4, CaCl2, MgCl2, and BaCl2) in sq. solns. at various concns. were detd. The Px values depend on the concn. of solns., but the dependence is not linear and it does not permit extrapolation of the parachor values to the zero concn. of the soln. In the calcn., the applied parachor value of the solvent affects considerably the Px value, as well as the dependence of Px on the compn. of the soln. Because of the dependence of the parachor of water on temp., the parachor values of salts detd. from sq. solns. also depend on temp. Analysis of the Hammick-Andrew equation showed that the equation is not established for the relation between the surface tension of the soln., solvent, and the dissolved substance and it should not be applied to sq. solns. of inorg. salts.
