Steroidal alkaloids from veratrum album variety Lobelianum. IV. Selenium dehydrogenation of veralcamine

Abstract: y Se dehydrogenation of veralcamine, a hydrogen is formed which has the same ultraviolet and infrared spectra as hydrocarbons derived from Se dehydrogenation of jervine and isorubijervine. From the spectra, 1,2-cyclopentenophenanthrene was detd. which indicates that the veralcamine is one of the alkaloids with a normal steroid skeleton.
