Abstract: The microbiocide and microstatic effect of egg albumen chlorinated to a max. amt. of active Cl, 8.45%, was described. There was a rapid loss of active Cl in various microbiol. media, the greatest being in a malt medium because of a great reactivity of Cl with org. compds. It was necessary to use 1.0% active Cl in Nielsen's medium for total destruction of Zygosaccharomyces thermotolerans, isolated from sugar beet diffusion juice. A 1.0% active Cl concn. in Nielsen medium was effective on Fusarium sambucinum, isolated from sugar beets of the 1956 crop and on Cellvibrio isolated from the soil of sugar beet fields.
