The evaluation of alkali celluloses by rheologic measurements

Abstract: Flow curves of aged alkali celluloses of various degrees of polymerization (DP) in the form of nitro derivs., in AcOBu solns., are described. 'U' values detd. from the rheologic measurements decreased with the decreasing av. DP of the alkali celluloses. 'U' values detd. previously (CA 56, 3695c) from the polydispersity curves did not follow this pattern but went through a min. as the distribution curves of degraded and undegraded alkali celluloses differ from the ideal Gaussian curves. The effects of mol. xvt., concn., and velocity gradient on the viscosity of nitrocellulose solns. are discussed.
