The vibrating platinum electrode in oscillographic polarography

Abstract: In a.-c. oscillographic polarography, a vibrating Pt wire electrode was used to analyze solns. of Au⁺⁺⁺, Ag⁺, Hg⁺, Cl^-, Br^-, and I^- in M HNO₃ and M H₂SO₄. The inflections on the curve dE/dt = f(E) corresponded to the formation of the free elements from their ions, and vice versa. After 5 min. of d.-c. electrolysis with the same electrode as cathode, Au⁺⁺⁺, Ag⁺, and Hg⁺ could be detd. in concns. of 10^-6M. Halogen ions could be detd. in concns. of 10^-3-10^-2M.
