Oscillopolarography of molybdates and tungstates

Abstract: In a.-c. oscillographic polarography with a dropping Hg electrode, molybdate and tungstate ions in acidic solns. gave sharp cathodic inflections on the curve dE/dt = f(E) at concns. of 10^-7-10^-4M, corresponding to catalytic evolution of H. When the depolarizer was present in the form of an isopolyacid, the inflections were observable at a concn. of 10^-7M. At tungstate concn. ≥105M, an inverted anodic peak in the form of a sharp min. was formed at neg. potentials; this was due to catalytic H evolution.
