Abstract: The temp. relation of condensation reactions at 85° of diphene and pyrocatechol residues with HCHO is described. Melamine in an amt. of > 1.0% based on the amt. of the polyphenol component acts as an accelerator for the condensation in the presence of alkalies; in an amt. <1.0%, it accelerates selectively the formation of poly(phenol alcs.).
