Preparation of 3-hexene

Abstract: 3-Hexene (I) contg. a trace of 3-methyl-1-pentene was prepd. A mixt. of 3-chloro-1-pentene 3 parts and 1-chloro-2-pentene 7 parts with MeMgBr was heated at 35° 4 hrs. The yield of I was 46% (calcd. on the mixt. of chloropentenes), b. 66.3-6.6°/751 mm. d20 0.6788, n20D 1.3939.
