Abstract: cf. CA 55, 23575b. The sepn. of dl-cis isomer of 1-hydroxymethylpyrrolizidine (I), b0·03 90°, n20D 1.4949 [picrate m. 192° (EtOH)], and dl-trans isomer of I (II), b1 115°, n20D 1.4999, [picrate m. 173-4° (EtOH)] from their mixt. formed in the total synthesis of dl-I, by adsorption chromatography on Al₂O₃ column, is described. It was detd. that I and II are present in the ratio 5:3.
