Abstract: The reactivity of the mixt. (derived from brown coal waste waters) of difen (a mixt. of 75% polyhydric phenols, largely pyrocatechols, and 25% nonphenolic compds.) and pyrocatechol was studied by applying some elements of Krahl's method (CA 51, 15991g). The reaction was obsd. by following changes of n in relation to time. As the met. wt. of the condensate increases, the mols. become insol. and a 2-phase system appears which is indicated by a strong decrease of n.
