Cross-linking polyethylene with benzoyl peroxide. I. Kinetics of peroxide decomposition

Abstract: In the process of cross-linking of polyethylene (I) (com. product Alkathene 20, mol. wt. 23.000) with (C₆H₄CO)₂O₂ (II), kinetics of the decompn. of II, rate consts. of spontaneous and inductive decompn. at 60-90°, and activation energies were detd. The relatively high activation energies of spontaneous and inductive decompn. of II in I is explained by hindered diffusion, which is the slowest process and affects the speed of the decompn. reaction.
