Abstract: The complex of CuII acetate with pyridine [Cu2(CH3COO)4.(C5H5N)2] crystallizes in dark-green crystals of orthorhombic symmetry. The basic cell with the dimensions a = 13.08, b = 8.59, and c = 19.57 A. contains 4 structural units. The space group symmetry is Pbca. The atomic co.ovrddot.ordinates in the basic cell were detd. by Fourier's syntheses ρ(xz) and ρ (yz). To det. the exact positions of atoms, a difference synthesis was applied. The structural unit is made up of the complex [Cu2(CH3COO)4.(C5H5N)2] with a Cu-Cu bond = 2.70 A., which is formed by overlapping 3dδ orbits of Cu atoms. Oxygens of planar acetate groups are bound to both Cu atoms. Each of the Cu atoms is co.ovrddot.ordinated in the octahedral form with 4 oxygens from acetate groups, with Cu from the mol. of CuII acetate and with N from the pyridine mol. Oxygens of the acetate groups co.ovrddot.ordinate Cu nearly planar. The opposite pairs of oxygens are located at distances of 1.93 and 2.00 A. The pyridine mols. are located in a plane.
