Polarographic detection of chloro complexes of bivalent copper in acetone

Abstract: The systems Cu(NO₃)₂.3H₂O-Me₂CO (I) and Cu(NO₃)₂.3H₂O-LiCl-Me₂CO (II) were studied polarographically. In system I a cathodic wave corresponding to [Cu(Me₂CO)_x]⁺⁺ and in system II an anodic wave corresponding to [CuCl]⁺ were detected. Addn. mols. of Me₂CO must be co.ovrddot.ordinated to the Cu because in these solns. Cu(II) has a co.ovrddot.ordination no. of 6.
