Kinetics of AgO decomposition

B. Stehlík

J. Ev. Purkyně University, Brno

Abstract: Ag2O3 decomp. into Ag2O in the dry state very rapidly and irregularly in the beginning and later with a 1st-order reaction rate, with an activation energy of 22 kcal./mol. In H2O and 1N KOH it decomp. into AgO with 1st-order reaction rate and with the same activation energy. The formation of AgO can be explained by the dismutation equil. between ions of bi-, tri-, and univalent Ag.
