Mutual separation of cis and trans forms of erucic acid and cis and trans forms of oleic acid with paper chromatography

Abstract: The possibility of the detn. of cis-13-docosenoic (erucic) and trans-13-docosenoic (brassidic) acids in this mixt. and the possibility of the detn. in a mixt. of these 2 acids with cis-9-octadecenoic (oleic) and trans-9-octadecenoic (elaidic) acids by paper chromatographic sepn. was described. Various temps. for development were applied and a sharp sepn. of erudic and brassidic acids for quant. evaluation was obtained at -30°. It was detd. that infrared spectra of both trans isomers have the same band in the area 10.33 μ (970 cm-1) so that it is possible from chromatograms developed at various temps. to det. quant. in the mixt. trans and cis forms. This method is easily reproducible.
