Abstract: Oscillopolarograms of alkyl, aryl alkyl, and diaryl ketones are described. The oscillopolarograms of acetone, MeCOEt, MeCOPr, Et2CO, BuCOMe, iso-BuCOMe, Bu2CO, (iso-Bu)2CO, cyclopentanone, acetophenone, propiophenone, MeCOCH2Ph, (PhCH2)2CO, benzophenone, Michler's ketone, anthrone, benzanthrone, fluorenone, acridone, and isatin are given and analyzed. The polarographically inactive lower homologous alkylketones are also inactive in oscillographic polarography. The higher homologs showed spikes which are caused by changes of capacity of the double layer owing to their adsorption and desorption at the surface of the electrode. Aryl alkyl and diaryl ketones active polarographically, in oscillographic polarography, showed spikes corresponding to the redn. of the conjugated keto group with a double bond. These redn. spikes were in most cases accompanied by capacity spikes. The polarographic values of the half-wave potentials are compared with those of the oscillopolarographic spikes. The distinct behavior of isatin in NH3-NH4Cl is explained by the formation of isamic acid, isamide, and imasatin. 42 references.
