Application of Zimm's method for the determination of the molecular weight of natural rubber

Abstract: Zimm's (CA 43, 1627d) extrapolation method for the detn. of the mol. wt. for extd. and non-extd. natural rubber (Hevea brasiliensis) was studied. With cyclohexene as a solvent at 20° and at the wave length 5460 A. the mol. wt. of extd. H. brasiliensis was 550,000 and of the nonextd. one 570,000. It was found that there is a condensation of links owing to the extn. without change in mol. wt.
