Physicochemical study of some systems important in the production of aluminum. II. The phase diagram of the system Na₃AlF₆-CaF₂-NaCl

Abstract: cf. CA 54, 21967a. By thermal analysis and by the visual method the system Na₃AlF₆-CaF₂-NaCl was studied. The binary systems Na₃AlF₆-CaF₂ (I), Na₃AlF₆-NaCl (II), and CaF₂-NaCl (III) are simple eutectic systems. The detd. eutectic compn. and temps. of eutectic crystn. were: for I, 50.5 mole % Na₃AlF₆, 940°; for II, 11.0 mole % Na₃AlF₆, 737°; and for III, 3.2 mole % CuF₂, 780°. According to the phase diagram, Na₃AlF₆-CaF₂-NaCl is a simple eutectic system showing Na₃AlF₆ 11.5, CaF₂ 1.0, and NaCl 87.5 mole % and crystn. temp. 730°.
