Abstract: cf. C.A. 53, 9351f. Data are obtained from a 'pH chromatogram,' prepd. by a development of chromatographic papers (Whatman No. 1) buffered stepwise from pH 2.0 to 10.0. Agar plugs cut from colonies of producing micro.ovrddot.organisms contg. the sample are placed on the starting lines of the paper strips. After their removal and drying of the spots, the chromatograms are developed with an org. solvent and the spots detected with the usual bioautographical method. The position of the spots dets. the most suitable pH for extn. Also the ionic character of the compds. examd. can be detd. This method is suitable for research of new antibiotics.
