Claisen rearrangement of m-allyloxytoluene

Abstract: By Claisen rearrangement of m-allyloxytoluene are formed 3,2-, 5,2-, and 3,4-Me(CH₂:CHCH₂)C₆H₃OH, which can be detd. chromatographically in the phenol mixt. and by detg. the m.ps. of oxidation products and the m.ps. of the mixt. with authentic compds. For oxidation, a mixt. of x,3-Pr(MeO)C₆H₃Me were formed from x-allyl-3-methylphenols by methylation and hydrogenation.
