Characteristics of chlorine in chlorolignins. III

Abstract: cf. C.A. 51, 7004f. The dechlorination of chlorinated lignins under pressure in the presence of Na2CO3, NaOH, and NH3 was studied. As in the dechlorination without pressure, part of the Cl is easily cleaved while the remaining Cl requires higher temp. and longer reaction time for cleavage. It is assumed that the residual Cl is bound on the aromatic ring of the lignin building units. Besides dechlorination there are other chem. changes of the lignin macromol. There is a replacement of Cl by N by the action of NH3, and part of the N is bound directly to the lignin.
