Texture and structural changes in Silon fibers

Abstract: Texture and structural changes of Silon fibers caused by tempering in H2O are described. Silon fibers are polymorphous and their smectic-hexagonal structure is changed by tempering and pulling to a monoclinic lattice which is either a stable α-form with all bound H bridges or an unstable β-form with H bridges not completely bound. Under certain conditions Silon fibers contain a mixt. of these structures. Various types of tempering and, to some extent, deformations form a stable lattice α-form which represents a thermodynamic equil.
