Abstract: The polymerization of CH2:CHCH2SiMe3 (I) and (CH2:CHCH2)2SiMe2 (II) in the presence of (tert-BuO)2 at 120-150° was studied. I is very difficult to polymerize. Under analogous conditions II has a considerably greater polymerization capacity which can be explained by the presence of a greater no. of double bonds. By calcg. for one double bond the activation energy increases from 34 to 35 kcal./mole in I and from 24.5 to 25.2 kcal./mole in II. The linear relationship of polymerization speed to the first power of initiator concn. was proven. By detg. the mol. wt. of the polymer it was proven that the polymerization degree in I is in the range from 3.8 to 4.7 and in II from 4.4 to 9.3. The value of av. mol. wt. does not depend on the concn. of the initiator and increases with higher temp.
