The preparation of some structure hybrids of N-methylated xanthine and 2-substituted imidazoles

Abstract: A related physiol. activity of C-8-substituted N-methylated xanthines and 2-substituted imidazols was the incentive to study the prepn. of more of the structure hybrids. By acetylation and cyclization from 1,3-dimethyl-4,5-diaminouracil and corresponding carboxylic acids the following compds. were prepd.: 8-benzyltheophylline, m. 287-8°; 8-benzylcaffeine, m. 161-2°; 8-benzyltheobromine, m. 251-2°; 8-(α-naphthylmethyl)theophylline, m. 300-1°; 8-(α-naphthylmethyl)caffeine, m. 211°; 8-phenylaminomethyltheophylline, m. 213-13.5°; 8-phenyl-aminomethylcaffeine, m. 294-8°; also prepd. were 7-(2-hydroxyethyl)-8-benzyltheophylline, m. 157-9°, and 7-(2,3-dihydroxypropyl)-8-benzyltheophylline, m. 169-71°.
