Preparation of 6-acetyl-1,2-isopropylidene-α-D-glucofuranose

Abstract: By reaction of BzCl and of p-MeC₆H₄SO₂Cl with the borate of 1,2-isopropylidene-α-D-glucofuranose (I) in a moisture-free medium, the 6-Bz, decomp. 196°, and the 6-p-tosyl, decomp. 116°, derivs., resp., of I are formed. I borate with Ac₂O forms the borate, decomp. 120°, of 6-acetyl-1,2-isopropylidene-α-D-glucofuranose, which by boiling with MeOH forms 6-acetyl-1,2-isopropylidene-α-D-glucofuranose, decomp. 147°, and H₃BO₃.
