Abstract: cf. C.A. 45, 6861e. The prepurification of juice (I) by sedimentation gives good results, but large containers are required. By heating I up to 80°, at pH 3 to 4, 17.5 to 35.0% and at pH 9 to 10, 23.0 to 39.0% N was coagulated. Ca3(PO4)2, prepd. by pptn. of H3PO4 by milk of lime at 60° and pH 6 to 7, adsorbs the coloring matter and other impurities in I so that the finished sirup is of good quality, aroma, and flavor. Starch which causes difficulties in filtering was converted into sugar by the addn. of malt ext. at 62-63° and pH 6.0.
