Polarographic determination of substituted phenylketones

Abstract: Compds. which can be converted by acetylation in derivs. contg. a methylphenylketone type structure can be detd. polarographically. The detn. is carried out in an acetate buffer soln. at pH = 4.2. Their surface tension is the same as that of acetophenone (-1.7 v.). Ephedrine, acetophenone, 4-aminoacetophenone, acetanilide, acetylsalicylic acid, atropine were detd. by this method. Acetylation is carried out with Ac₂O present in excess at the boiling temp. for several hrs.
