The simultaneous optimum defecation by lime and carbonation after a progressive preliming of sugar-beet juice

Abstract: By progressive preliming (Dedek and Vas´atko, C.A. 26, 3951) the metastable supersatd. soln. of sugar-beet juice, the nonsugars are pptd. in the coarse, grainy, easily filtrable form, without an excess of CaO (0.25-0.30%). This is followed by simultaneous carbonation and continous liming (D. and V., loc. cit.; Dost´al, C.A. 27, 2328) in which optimum alkali for carbonation and defecation is kept. This method is very effective in processing frozen sugar beets affected by slime putrefaction.
