Kinetics and mechanism of the reaction of aluminium in aqueous solution of sodium hydroxide

Abstract: The kinetics of the reaction of spectrally pure aluminium in aqueous solution of sodium hydroxide is governed in the investigated reaction regime by the experimental kinetic equation v = kcOH-co20.5. The rate-determining step and depolarization processes involving the reduction of protons and oxygen have been ascertained on the basis of the postulated mechanism.
