Abstract: The unique characteristics of cellulose biofilms prepared from Zea mays L. (corn) husk were investigated by FTIR and SEM–EDX. The in situ dispersion of gold ions on the corn husk cellulose biofilm (CHCB) was performed by one-step immersion process, followed by reduction of the ions using Calophyllum inophyllum L. leaves extract. The antibacterial properties of a dispersion of metallic gold on the corn husk cellulose biofilms were studied using Escherichia coli (8739 TM*) strain. The gold-dispersed films have potential to inhibit the growth of E. coli, as indicated by the presence of an inhibition zone around the film. The results obtained encourage the investigation of the application of natural resources for advanced materials development.
