Determination of citrinin with a stable fluorescent zirconium(IV)-based metal–organic framework

Abstract:

The mycotoxin citrinin was detected and removed simultaneously using a Stable Fluorescent Zirconium(IV)-based Metal–Organic Framework (MOF) UiO-66. When excited at 290 nm, the quenching degree of UiO-66 at 396 nm increases as citrinin concentration increases and reaches 89.20 percent. Based on these results, a fluorescence assay for detecting Citrinin in food and feed was created. The adsorption performance of the used MOF for Citrinin was reached in 60 min, with an adsorption efficiency of more than 80%. At concentration ranges of 0.08–1.00 µM, the SV plots of UiO-66 toward Citrinin were nearly linear, with a calculated detection limit (DL) of 0.042 μM. The application of this assay to wheat and feed samples showed that it could be a promising sensing platform for citrinin detection in the food system.
