Synthetic use of the Pfitzinger reaction in preparation of 2(,3)-(di)substituted derivatives of quinoline-4-carboxylic acids

Abstract: The synthesis of a variety of quinoline-4-carboxylic acids has been accomplished using a modified Pfitzinger approach involving the condensation of a ketone with isatin employing basic conditions. This paper presents the use of thus far not investigated chalcones in the Pfitzinger synthesis.
