Reactions of saccharides catalyzed by molybdate ions. 38. NMR spectra of alditols in molybdate complexes

Abstract: The formation of complexes of 17 selected alditols with ammonium molybdate in aqueous solutions was investigated by ¹H and ¹³C NMR spectroscopy. Alditols form four types of binuclear molybdate complexes in which they serve as tetradentate donors with four vicinal hydroxyl groups. In two types of alditol-molybdate complexes the alditol carbon chain re­mains in the shape close to a zig-zag arrangement. In other two types of complexes the alditol carbon chain is forced to a sickle arrangement.
