Abstract: The true reaction order, detd. from initial rates by the differential method, with respect to the concn. of Cr2+ is lower than the reaction order detd. by both the integral and the differential methods with respect to time. Product Cr3+ ions retard the redox reaction of Cr2+ with salicylaldehyde and the rate of increase of Cr3+ products corresponds to the rate of decrease of Cr2+ ions. The effect of a reversible reaction in the rate-detg. step of this noncomplementary redox reaction is discussed.
