Optical rotatory dispersion studies. IX. 2,3-Unsaturated esters of aldonic acids

Abstract: Uv, ORD, and CD spectra of six 2,3-unsatd. aldonic acids were studied. The signs of Cotton effects in the 250 and 210 nm regions were related to the configuration of adjacent chiral centers. Aldonic acids with (4R)-configuration showed pos. Cotton effects in the 210 nm region and neg. Cotton effects in the 250 nm region; those with the (4S)-configuration showed opposite signs.
