Melamine as a selective catalyst in the reaction of phenol with formaldehyde in an alkaline medium

Abstract: The influence of melamine upon the lowering of the free formaldehyde contents in the A -type resin was investigated after reaction of phenol with formaldehyde in alkaline medium. Melamine acts, on the basis of chromatographic examination of the reaction, as a transferring agent of the methylol groups.
