Evaluation of wood celluloses during acetylation

Abstract: In the acetylation of sulfite beech pulp it was necessary to use 350% of anhyd. AcOH and 10% catalyst in the form of H₂SO₄ at 25°. At a higher degree of polymerization the acetylation is more satisfactory. To evaluate pulps for the acetylation the values of the acceleration consts. must also be calcd. in relation to the lower-mol.-wt. portion of the finished product.
