Side reactions in the reduction of sodium sulfate by carbon

Abstract: By applying thermodynamic laws, the side reactions in the redn. of Na₂SO₄ by C according to the general equation Na₂SO₄ + 2C = Na₂S + 2CO₂ were studied. To eliminate formation of undesirable Na₂CO₃ according to the equation Na₂S + CO₂ + H₂O = Na₂CO₃ + H₂S in Na₂S production, the min. reaction temp. should be 950° and 850° in the regeneration of sulfate.
