Abstract: The reaction of VOCl3 vapour with the maximal hydroxylated surface of
different amorphous forms of SiO2 is studied. It is shown that the quantity of
the reacting silanol groups depends on the nature of SiO2 , the structural
characteristics of the initial samples being of substantial importance for the
mechanism of the surface processes going on.
The decrease of silanol groups concentration of vulcasil by thermal treatment does not lead to a fuller quantitative proceeding of the surface reactions
with VOCl3. The fixed quantities of vanadium and chlorine on the surface
depend on the preliminary thermal treatment of the carrier.
