Abstract: New, very sensitive detector tubes were developed to visualize yperite
vapour in atmosphere. Tubes were tilled with 4-(4/-nitrobenzyl)pyridine
complexes with mercury(II), nickel(II) and magnesium salts over purified,
activated silica gel as carrier. A very high detection sensitivity has been
achieved (0.5—1
μg yperite in 1 liter air). The contents of tubes being quite
stable. Of detection reagents a saturated solution of sodium Perchlorate
in 10% aqueous sodium hydroxide was found to be the most convenient.
