Abstract: A method for indirect polarographic detn. of H2CO and AcH in the presence of Me2CO and MeCOEt is described. This method is based on the great reactivity of aldehydes with o-phenylenediamine and iso-BuNH2 and can be used for quant. analyses. Benzimidazolines are formed by the reaction of the aliphatic aldehyde with o-phenylenediamine in a phosphate buffer at pH 6.0 and 20°. They can be identified by the anodic waves. The imines are formed by the reaction of aliphatic or aromatic aldehydes with iso-BuNH2 in iso-BuNH2 buffer at pH 10.4 and 20°. They can be identified by the cathodic waves. Both these reactions are not affected by the presence of the ketones. The error of the aldehyde detn. in the concn. range 2 × 10-4-10 × 10-4 and in the presence of ketones is ±2%.
